Day 03 - Rome (Capitoline, Colosseum)

On Wednesday we continued our continued our exploration of Rome. We walked a total of 8.5 miles and traveled on the Rome subway and regional metro system. We covered the areas of the Capitoline Hill, Colosseum, Lido di Roma, Ostia Antica, The Spanish Steps, and Piazza Navona.

In this post we started by walking though the Capitonline Hill. Many of the current structures on the Hill are from the Medieval period or designed by Michelangelo during the Renaissance.

Here is a different view of the Roman Forum, where we were yesterday, looking across to the east from on top of the Capitoline Hill.

Most European cities that I have visited have similar public fountains like this. It's always running, and if you plug the spout with your finger the water is diverted to a hole on the top and it becomes a drinking fountain. You see people everywhere drinking from these or washing their hands or filling water bottles. I never see this in the States.

Back the Colosseum today, and this time we got to go inside.

It's amazing how large it is inside. I'd say it is similar in size and capacity to a modern day basketball arena.
