Day 01 and 02 - Rome

I got the morning started by waking up at 03:30am to get to the airport for a 06:30 flight to Atlanta. Once I got to Atlanta I meet my dad (Hank) and stepmom (Sue) at the airport. Then we had an 8 hour flight to Rome. Below is a picture of me having lunch at Friday's in the airport.

Once we arrived in Rome it took a while for us to get through the passport check and wait for our driver to pick us up and drive us into the city to our apartment.

The apartment is pretty nice, but when we first arrived there all we wanted to do was sleep but they had not made it up after the last guest. So we had to go out for few hours and get something to eat. I was so tired after a full day of flying.

I really wasn't in the mood to take many pictures, but I did get this one of Giordano Bruno. He was burned at the stake in this square in the year 1600 during the Roman Inquisition. He held that the Copernican view that the Earth rotated around the sun, so they convicted him of heresy.

After a three hour nap we headed back out to explore a little more and grab a bite to eat at this restaurant across the Tiber River in Trastevere. We stopped on the way back across the bridge and I took this picture of my parents.

Well, that's it for day one. Not much action, but tomorrow ought to be better. We will be visiting ancient Rome.

  3. Patrick,
I'm being careful Mr. Safety! Except I managed to twist my ankle pretty bad, three times! Going to the Vatican tomorrow. Very excited!

    Jenny,
I'm having such a fun time going back and reviewing the pictures and making comments. This is like the best way to do a trip photo album. I still go back and look at the last Europe trip blog. Glad you are enjoying following us.
