On Saturday we left Rome with our new rental car and headed for the Tuscan hills. On the way we decided to stop in a small hill town called Orvieto in southwest Umbria. It had the most quaint looking little square...
...combined with a HUGE church. Orvieto Cathedral is a great example of gothic architecture combined with Arab design influences. The facade is magnificent and dwarfs the small town.
I thought the inside was a little plain and had an unfinished look to it. Unlike the more ornate cathedrals I was used to in Rome.
What a large organ!
My dad drove the second leg of the journy from Orvieto on to our house in Carmignano. The Italian roads are some of the best I have ever driven on. And what a view!
As we enter the town of Carmignano in northern Tuscany we could see our villa from the road. It's the large white house of the top of the mountain to the left.
This is the bell tower to the church inside the 10th century castel next dooor. looks like it was about 9:15 when I took this. Oh sorry, 21:15.
